Peace Village Orphanage

On Saturdays we go to Peace Village Orphanage and teach an English class to a few of the older kids that still live there. Daniel wanted to play a game where, if you loose, you get your hand slapped. Well, Daniel had a great time abusing the kids on this day. It is ok though because "Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord" (Romans 12:19).

Windy (yes that is spelled right) tried to protect Sosimo from Daniel's slap.

Sosimo on Thursday Night

A couple weeks ago Sosimo started teaching a Thursday evening Bible study at Calvary Chapel Daejeon going through Genesis. You can see that he broke out the best of his wardrobe for this one. Silly Sosi!

JinSoo's in Daejeon

Here are a couple photos from the Friday night Bible study at JinSoo's Foreign Language Institute in Daejeon. After the Bible study Daniel and Sosimo conduct Wii Fellowship. Wii Felllowship is where some of the students from Bible study come over to the church to play Wii and hang out for a while with the guys. They play games, eat noodles and talk English. It has been a lot of fun, but I don't have any pictures yet.

Our Firts M.E.L.T.

We had our first M.E.L.T. (My English Lunch Time) at the church. Some people came late and the room actually filled up pretty good. This was something I knew that they were doing in Okinawa so I thought it would be great to have Sosimo and Daniel help me do it here in Daejeon. We provided the noodle soup and some English practice and lots of fun for everyone. We will continue to do this every Tuesday from 1 to 1:50 as an outreach.

Our first Sunday with Daniel and Sosimo. Daniel is on the far left and Sosimo is behind the camera (do you see him?). We are so happy to have them here serving.

September 7, 2008 Opening Service

The opening service was great. We had lots of friends and family attend. Please pray that the Lord would draw those that He wants to be part of this fellowship.

Caleb and David led the singing part of the worship service. Caleb will be our regular worship leader on Sunday nights.

My wife translated for the first service. Our Sunday evening service will normally be English only.

What can I say?
Students and teachers from the presbyterian church where I teach a Sunday noon English service came to our first service (24 students, 6 teachers - they came in their church bus), they led us in a couple closing songs.

We got signs up on both sides of the building and we got our chairs. Our first service is less than 2 weeks away. Getting close!

We installed an air conditioner a week or so ago, there is also a small one in the back room. Today I had some blinds installed for privacy in the back room and also to block light when we show video. Opening service is scheduled for September 7, 2008.

July 28, 2008

All the interior and electric work is done. The next step is to order chairs and tables and set up book shelves for the library. I also still need to have signs made for outside the building as well as print up flyers and business cards. It's getting close.

July 11, 2008

Day four: Everything is ready but we want to wait a couple weeks for the cement platform to dry. I was told that if we put down the tile too soon the cement may crack later. So we are waiting. Also the electrician still needs to put in the lighting and the wall plugs. He got everything ready as they did the construction, but I am not sure when he is coming back to finish up. My next step is to find the right kind of chairs and tables for the room. I will probably travel up to Seoul with a friend to check out some church supply places. I want to make sure I can sit in the chair to see how it feels and not just order something that looks nice from the internet.
